We are travelling to Croatia and need a very accurate translation card to hand to waiters/chefs/shops to let them know that our daughter has a life-threatening allergy to nuts, particularly peanuts. We need to emphasise that it needs to be taken seriously. We also need to know how to ask for medical attention and an ambulance. Advice on any national dishes to avoid would also be very gratefuly received…Thank you!

  1. Vice Principal Crubbs says:

    Why not get her allergy shots? It will help her. Like I am allergic to grass so since I got allergy shots I am fine around grass..And my other major allergies

  2. LMG says:

    MOJ KCERKA lma OXBILJAN ALERGIJE TO Sicusna posuda. NAPOSE Kikiriki.

  3. Linda R says:

    i have the same thing! but i dont know crosation, sry

    and to the person who answer 1st, allergy shots dont work for this kind of allergy. Its anaphaxic, meaning you cant breath. Wut they did for u and grass was inject grass into u to buiild your tolerance. But if they did that for this kid, it would kill her b/c she would react so severly.

  5. Tanya H says:

    try allergy shots. they might work. try not to eat anything that u dont know about and maybe if u look at it u can tell if it has nuts. look online 4 sitesvwhere u can translate Croatian. good luck!

    1)You would say …..

    ***”Moja kcerka ima OPASNO PO ZIVOT alergije na orasi posebno kikiriki” ***

    Orah/ orasi = nuts
    kikiriki = peanuts
    Watch out for ‘Badem’ (almond) and Ljecnjak (hazlenuts). This is quite common.
    Opasno po zivot = life threating
    Alergija = allergy

    ## Croatian J sounds like English ‘y’ ##
    ## kcerka = daughter pronounced with a ‘ch; sound as in church ie cherka ###

    To get help you would say…
    Treba HITNA POMOC!! (I need an ambulance!)
    Pozovi HITNA POMOC!! (Call an ambulance!)

    #hitan = urgent, pomoc = help#
    BTW The phone number for an ambulance in Croatia is 94, and if you are British medicare is free in Croatia.

    I wouldn’d worry too much about language in Croatia because especially in the tourist areas alot of people speak very good English.

    2) As for food, many cakes have nuts in. I would personally avoid all food made in a bakery because of the danger of cross contamination.

    Common foods that are eaten on the coast are fish, pizza, and salad. Nut allergys aren’t very common in Croatia. So most people wouldn’t be aware of the dangers. Before ordering I would cheak to make sure that there is not a trace of nuts in the food when preparing it. By telling the waiter that your daughter has an allergy and saying something like this..

    **Molim, Jel’ orah ili kikiriki u (### insert name of meal###). Veoma je VASNO sto NEMA nista od toga u moju kcerkinu hranu zbog NAJMANJE KOLICINE ovih proteina dovode do vrlo ozbiljne alergijske reakcije (mozda smrt!). hvala ljepa
    (Excuse me, Is there nuts or peanuts in (name of food). It is very important that there isn’t any nuts in my daughter’s food because even the smallest amount of this would lead to a very serious allergic reaction (possibly death!). Thank you.)***

    Croatia is a beautiful country, and i’m sure you will have a wonderful holiday :-)
