Do people with tree nut allergies have an allergic reaction to dates?

I was wondering this, because it seems like for all intents and purposes a date is a kind of nut, yet my co-worker swears up and down that she’s seen a person with a tree nut allergy eating one.

Theres no relationship between the two-dates are not nuts and not related in any way. Unless the person is specifically allergic to dates then they wont have an allergic reaction just because they are allergic to tree nuts.
