Tree Nut Allergy Question?
Posted by: Alan in tree nuts allergies, tags: Allergy, Question, Tree
My son just got diagnosed with an allergy to tree nuts. He came up with a 9.4 (on the scale of 0-100 with 100 being the worst) I’m just trying to find a little info on the scale they use and what exactly a 9.4 means. He has an epipen and I do plan on avoiding nuts, but I’m just trying to figure it out.
I’m not leaving my “trust” in Yahoo answers. I was just looking for more info. He has been to an allergist. I’m just trying to learn more and was looking to figure out the scale system for allergies.

NEVER trust your child’s health to Yahoo. follow up with the allergist & nutritionist, keep the epi pen & liquid benedryl (know the current dose) handy at all times, learn CPR, read labels, avoid processed foods, go to FAAN online, and join a parent resource group in your area.

I too have an allergy to all nuts and seeds. Personally, I’ve never heard of the scale before. However, I have dealt with my allergies since I was a child, and I know about the whole Epipen deal. 94 out of 100 sounds really bad, and I would assume that means that he can’t even be near nuts. I have a friend who brought in nuts once when we were in elementary school, and I nearly collapsed right in the middle of the lesson. Basically, I would be sure to carry at least 2 epipens around wherever you go, and once your son reaches 10 or 11, he should start carrying one around too. Also, you should see if your son is allergic to Peanut oil, as well. some people allergic to Tree nuts aren’t allergic to peanut oil, because when they’re pressed something comes out of them, or perhaps it is easier for our bodies to process. Anyway, Good luck. Oh, and I’ve lived almost 20 years with a nut allergy, and I’m doing fine. Not one incident that I couldn’t control.
