I think there is a possibility that my son has a milk allergy… He has constant diarrhea and will randomly vomit… I was just wondering what the symptoms were to a milk allergy…. And what would you supplement the milk with if he was allergic? He has a doctors apt in a week so I was just curious thanks.
I have him on Whole milk he is 15 months old.

My son has a milk allergy and has had one since birth. He gets a rash on his face he has never had diarrhea or any vomit from it recently but then again I limit his diary. He would vomit a lot when he was an infant before they switched him to soy formula. He is now on stage 2 soy formula and he is turning 14 months on friday. I do believe he is out growing it which is good and the doctor said that he should. Either buy stage 2 soy formula or lactose free formula or you can buy soy milk or lactose free milk. He may be lactose intolerant. I have tons of soy milk want some lol my son does not like it so I would try and get the vanilla flavored.

my son has a true cows milk protein allergy! he was given formula once in the hospital because it was late at night and i had run out of breast milk! the next day he had blood in his stool! he was put on a another formula with the protein broken down which did not work he symptoms were he would cry a lot! he did have diarrhea with mucus in it! he also had a bad rash around his anus his poop was also very very foul smelling, he would wheeze while eating, cry while eating as his tummy was upset, he also was breaking out in hives! i don’t know how old your baby is but for him he was put on Nutramigen which worked okay for a month! he is now on Neocate which is Very expensive its 255.00 for 8 cans of 400 grams! Neocate also makes stuff for bigger kids with the allergy!

    * just like to add that nurse who looked at him one day in the ER at our childrens hospital said that her son had an allergy also and that he had the foul smelling diarrhea and rash!

Symptoms of cow’s milk protein allergy will generally appear within the first few months of life. An infant can experience symptoms either very quickly after feeding (rapid onset) or not until 7 to 10 days after consuming the cow’s milk protein (slower onset).

The slower-onset reaction is more common. Symptoms may include loose stools (possibly containing blood), vomiting, gagging, refusing food, irritability or colic, and skin rashes. This type of reaction is more difficult to diagnose because the same symptoms may occur with other health conditions. Most children will outgrow this form of allergy by 2 years of age.

Rapid-onset reactions come on suddenly with symptoms that can include irritability, vomiting, wheezing, swelling, hives, other itchy bumps on the skin, and bloody diarrhea. In rare cases, a potentially severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) can occur and affect the baby’s skin, stomach, breathing, and blood pressure. Anaphylaxis is more common with other food allergies than with milk allergy.

My son is 4 1/2 months old with a dairy allergy. He showed his allergy through a very bad skin rash that covered his entired body and head. Since I breastfeed my son, all I had to do was cut out all dairy in my diet (that includes dairy proteins) and his rash went away. If you formula feed your child, there are dairy free formulas. However, check with your doctor before making any changes in either your diet or your formula. Once he turns 1 and I will no longer be breastfeeding him, he will have to avoid all dairy products. Instead of cow’s milk alternatives will be almond, soy or rice milk.

You can feel a little relief in knowing that around 80% of all children with dairy intolerances or allergies outgrow it by the time they are 5 years old!

    Good luck! :)
