my son was allergic to milk. we never used formula, so i can’t help you there. many babies who are allergic to dairy are also allergic to soy.
i would try to see a pediatric allergist as soon as you can. you will need to avoid dairy when you start giving solids and it can be difficult to figure out whether a food contains dairy or not.
btw, a dairy allergy and lactose intolerance are not the same thing. never give a baby any type of juice or solids before 6 months, especially a baby with allergies.

This is quite common. The soy should work fine for your daughter.

My son was breastfed until he was 6 mths old. Once my supply started to dwindle, I began to supplement with formula. After he wouldn’t keep it down, he was tested for reflux, but we found out he had a milk allergy. We began giving him Similac Isomil Soy and he drank it fine. For some reason though, he could only tolerate the Ready to Feed, he would not drink the powder form. He will be 2 next month and is still drinking soy milk (Silk). If you do go with the Similac Soy Formula, be sure to register on their site: http://www.similac.com for coupons and free samples.

My son is also allergic to milk. He has a milk allergie not a lactose intolerence. We had to put him on soy formula and then after that he went to soy milk. You have to read labels of everything very carefully. Milk, whey, cream, butter and other dairy components are contained in foods that you may not think have milk in them. My son is now two and I make his meals special from ours and I am very carefull of the ingredients I put in them. Most all of the toddler meals that are packaged contain milk, only a few do not. Its tough to find a variety of foods to feed him because of the milk allergie and because he is also picky. I have had good luck with asian types of food because those recipes typically do not use any dairy products and he seems to like them. I was told by my doctor to wait until he is 3 and then have him tested again for the allergie. The doctor seems to believe that most kids grow out of this allergie by the time they are three years old.
