Is There A Difference In The Smell Of Nutramigen And Similac Alimentum ?
Posted by: Alan in Milk Allergies, tags: Alimentum, Difference, Nutramigen, Similac, Smell, There
Any idea if babies prefer the taste of one over the other ? My baby has cows milk allergy and I am debating between Alimentum and Nutramigen. Die-Hard Breast Milk advocates who have “pearls of wisdom” on giving breastmilk instead of forumla.. please do NOT reply !!!! I know that breastmilk is the best and I am planning on supplementing on the days I feel my milk supply may not be enuff for my 4.5 month old.

i use alimentum ready to feed, i have tried both and nutramigen smelled a little worse in my opinion (but it is in a metal can so maybe it was more metallic smelling too)
one other thing you may want to consider:
alimentum ready to feed uses sucrose to sweeten and nutramigen uses corn syrup to sweeten (alimentum powder also uses corn syrup for some reason, only the ready to feed uses sucrose)
my baby has done better with alimentum ready to feed than he did with nutramigen but it is different for everyone (i wonder if he didn’t tolerate the corn syrup well)
but it is soooo expensive i wish i didn’t have to use it but it has done wonders for him

they both smell bad. My daughter did better w/ Alimentum…she could only tolerate the ready to feed Alimentum for some reason.
They are both pretty much the same. I would start w/ one brand, and as long as she takes it, keep with it.
She may not take the Alimentum since she is mainly bf..a big difference in taste!

not sure, but what i do know is if the baby has a true milk allergy you can not have any milk products because it will pass through you and into the baby.
my son had a intolerance to the lactose so he was on soy formula. i would try both and see which one your baby likes most.
