Is It Okay To Take Milk Thistle Supplements If You’re Allergic To Ragweed?
Posted by: Alan in Milk Allergies, tags: Allergic, Milk, Okay, Ragweed, Supplements, Take, Thistle, You're
I tested at about a 2 or 3 (out of 7, 7 being the worst) for a ragweed allergy. I’m also receiving allergy treatments and am currently in the latter stages of the treatment. Milk thistle could greatly help benefit my medical condition so I’m wondering if it would be okay to take it at this point?

I can’t take it, I’m ragweed allergic. I also can’t do wheat grass. Nothing will help you if you’re allergic to it.

If I were you (I do not have a ragweed allergy), I would go it slow at first with the milk thistle.
This is from the Nat’l Ctr for Complementary & Alternative Medicine/Nat’l Institutes of Health (NCCAM) website:
“Milk thistle is believed to have protective effects on the liver and improve its function. It is typically used to treat liver cirrhosis, chronic hepatitis (liver inflammation), and gallbladder disorders. Treatment claims also include:
Lowering cholesterol levels, reducing insulin resistance in people with type 2 diabetes who also have cirrhosis, & reducing the growth of cancer cells in breast, cervical, and prostate cancers.”
… and …
“In clinical trials, milk thistle generally has few side effects. Occasionally, people report a laxative effect, upset stomach, diarrhea, and bloating.
**Milk thistle can produce allergic reactions, which tend to be more common among people who are allergic to plants in the same family (for example, ragweed, chrysanthemum, marigold, and daisy).”

Milk Thistle helps to clean your liver, and yes, since you are probably taking medication for the allergies which tends to put pressure on your liver. Any kind of medication does as it goes into the bloodstream and the toxins to be filtered and removed by your liver.
I take them all the time. I also have allergy meds.
