Please Tell Me Brands Of Soy Milk Good For Children?
Posted by: Alan in Milk Allergies, tags: Brands, Children, Good, Milk, Please, Tell
My 2 year old son is often constipated. We tried laxatives and several juices. but until now he remained that way. I heard that some children have allergy on cow’s milk, so i want to introduce soy milk to my son. Would you please tell me, the available brand suitable for young children. Thanks in advance for your info & advice. God bless.

So far as I know from own experience (babysitting) all brands of soy milk or plant milk are suitable for children (as a drink of course, NOT as main nutrition source for infants – here one needs either breastfeeding or a special child formula).

But they do prefer the ones which are sweetened
So it is good to choose a plant milk which is naturally sweet or at least naturally sweetened. I would recommend rice milk (the most known brand is Rice Dream: http://www.tastethedream.com ), which is usually LOVED by all children for the mild sweetness and creaminess (natural due to rice malt fermentation, no sugar added; it is also hypo-allergenic in opposite to soy). Oatmilk is another big (naturally sweet) favorite.
Better to avoid “pure” or “unsweetened” or “plain” soymilk, because it has a slightly beany aftertaste and is not sweet, which is unpleasant for little children.
Edit: You can of course also try out organic goat milk, some children tolerate this better than cow milk too. It is always good to have many choices, so try out in small amounts what your child likes best
Also, on another note – constipation rather has something to do with lack of fiber in the food. Maybe you should try to feed more whole grain products and whole fruits inclusive skin (instead of juices which lack any fiber).

Please don’t give soy milk to your son. There is a lot of evidence that processed soy foods such as soy milk have many detrimental effects on health, especially for small children. At the very least I would be cautious giving soy to an infant before it is proven to be safe.
As an alternative, I would suggest goat’s milk. Some people tolerate it better than cows milk. Also, a lot of people who are allergic to pasteurized cows milk do fine with raw cows milk.

mama raised me on infameal or soymeal also. did not drink much milk at all till i was in school. loved it especially when it was thick like cream.
you have to get a complete protein so if you mix and match your
beans | grains | seeds and nuts
these if mixed make a complete protein not sure where the milk will go from there for being considered milk for children.
use the whole grains and nuts.
soy is said to be complete but just slightly short in one of the amino acids if you find ways to get nuts or seeds ground or mashed beans this should take care of the protien part. Anyway as for the rest you need vitamins and minerals for that age and not for adults.

Any brand will do but He will probably like Silk Vanilla Soy Milk the best. Since he is only 2 you want to talk any problems or diet changes over with his doctor.

If you think your son has lactose intolerance, try cutting out ALL DAIRY PRODUCTS, not just milk. I don’t believe constipation is a symptom of lactose intolerance, though. Read about it here: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname…
Silk Vanilla soy milk is fantastic. Your son may like the Very Vanilla though because it’s much sweeter.

Are you sure that your son has a milk allergy? Let him try cow’s milk. If that makes it worse, then try soymilk. If that doesn’t help either, get your son some Vitamin D supplements, and calcium-rich foods. Try Silk. It’s the only brand of soymilk that I know, but it’s good.

silk milk is good but he may like it better but I believe it’s preety early for a baby to drink soy milk,as soy milk doesn’t provide the body with the same amount and kind of nutrients
