Food Ideas For Toddler With Milk And Egg Allergy?
Posted by: Alan in Milk Allergies, tags: Allergy, Food, Ideas, Milk, Toddler, With
My 1 year old is allergic to eggs and milk and I’m having a hard time figuring out things to feed her besides jars of baby food. (Doctor just told me she is a bit underweight) She only recently started taking solids without gagging, she now will eat cheerios and sometimes cubed boiled veggies. She loves to snack, but I need some ideas of what I can give her.
Im a single mom who works, so preparing lengthy recipes would be a bit difficult.
Thanks!

Wow , we have your issue! Only my son was 2 when we finally figured it out! Basically we try to get an many fruits and veggies into him as possible, because they are a great source of vitamins. Cows milk and eggs are *not*essential for a healthy diet.
Sure, they help, but your child will be fine without them. You can make pancakes with mashed banana, used oat, or almond (non dairy milks), tofu, and sometimes kids who are allergic can still have eggs and milk in baked goods. I don’t exactly understand the whole etiology of food allergies/ histamine releases, but there is so much information circulating out there that you can easily find stuff on google.
By the way, my kids still eat pizza (without cheese or with nutritional yeast in the place of cheese) . They eat almost everything that everyone else does, but without eggs or dairy.
Here are some things my kids eat:
Home made pizza with nutritional yeast and pepperonis
noodles with faux cheese sauce (made from nutritional yeast we buy at whole foods)
Chicken nuggets with broccoli
Tofu with fried potatoes (if you use it firm you can fry it with potatoes and its great)
Bean burritos without cheese
Cereal with almond milk
Rice and refried beans
Tortilla soup
peanut butter sandwiches
..sometimes the Hebrew National brand of hot dogs since they are kosher
avocados
for snacks:
Bananas
GFCF snacks (like cookies since they are non dairy)
It really is not hard at once you adjust to the new diet. We don’t think twice about it anymore.

Dairy and eggs are a big staple for most diets, so start thinking like a vegan, only with meat. Silly, but think about it.
First understand what nutrition comes from eggs and milk. Eggs are a source of protein, iron, and some vitamin A. Milk is a fortified source of fat, vitamins A and D, and calcium. Neither are necessary for a healthy diet since everything can be found in other foods.
Fruits like strawberries (if there’s no allergy), peaches, pears, bananas, mangos, pineapple, cherries, apples, and melons are great. Buy a bag of frozen mixed veggies, green and yellow beans, and broccoli. Also pastas, potatoes, and rice are fine, as well as legume beans. If you eat meat that’s fine too.
Basically, keep meals as simple as possible, just avoid dairy and eggs. My one year old had real oatmeal with bananas and mandarin oranges for breakfast and rice with chicken, mixed veggies, and bbq sauce (because it tastes interesting for him) for lunch. Good luck!

My son is allergic to eggs, he will be 2 in june, we found out when he was one, he is also allergic to milk, but not as severe so he can have it in very small amounts. He eats lots of fruits and veggies, I buy pasta from Whole foods, it’s called Montabello it was not made in a factory where egg noodles were produced therefore he can have it. I also let him have sherbert I buy the 100% real fruit one and it helps me feel like it’s better for him. Cherrybrook kitchen makes snacks, and foods for children with food allergies it is kind of expensive and I don’t care for the taste but my son like some of the things, Of course that is because he has never had anything else (you can order online, or Whole Foods and Hannaford grocery stores have it).I hope some of this helps, Good Luck!

Here I just typed this all out for someone else, its not really ready to be posted online so umm forgive me. It was regarding vegan toddlers, but much of the same applies:http://www.prematureoptimism.com/veganto…
However because of your child’s allergies I wouldn’t offer nuts, sesame seeds, or soy. But that’s me, you use your brain and I’ll use mine
Otherwise avocado, sweet pototoes, green peas, carrots, beets, etc are powerhouse foods.
Make sure she’s getting enough protein and that will help with the weight gain.
As for recipes look for vegan recipes. If you want baked goods and side dishes it will be the same. And of course one can always add meat to vegan recipes

Saige, well said.
What about whole grains and beans? Well, I guess she has Cheerios.
In terms of baking, you can sub apple sauce or bananas for eggs (also search “vegan egg substitutes”) and soy milk for milk.
Try the following sites. I’m thinking I should be able to offer more advice, but I just finished my coffee and really should get up and finish some housework before my husband and daughter come home in about 20 minutes.
I hope I’ve been of some help.
