Can Switching From A Milk Based Formula To A Soy Based Cause Diarhea?

my 1 month old was showing signs of a milk allergy so our pediatrician had us swich to a soy based formula to help with everything. she can burp easier now, is a lot happier, sleeps quietly at night now without the grunting, and no longer been projectile puking. It has only been five days though. but since we changed the formula she has had severe diarhea that is really mushy and god awfully smelly. is this normal for an infant to go through during the transition of switching formulas?

its normal babys should have runny pooh if it wasnt runny with the other formula the babys was probly constipated, considering liquid is the only thing that babies eat you cant expect it to be hard or firm but if she has diarhea that is almost none stop id take her to be checked just to be sure.

Children can also have allergies to soy based formulas. Your daughter may not have had a milk allergy, maybe just lactose intolerant. If she is still having diarrhea talk to your dr. She might have a virus. You might also try a lactose free formula. Also with a soy based formula, often times it is smelly. I would definitely talk to the doctor so he could investigate the diarrhea.

congratulations on your new little bundle!…ANY change of diet can cause GI adjustments in babies..let your pediatrican know…and remember that the stools of newborns are soft and squishy (sorry!
)..Sounds like she’s adjusting because shes not projectile vomiting..isn’t it amazing just how good they can do that? sleeping happily, being more content..and burping well….well this is all good…priceless in fact..just touch base with your doctor tomorrow re: the poop…and relax and enjoy this wonderous little gift from God…arent they just so yummy???
