3 Month Old Baby On Milk Based Formula Has Loose Stools Several Times A Day. Is This Normal?

My baby is 14 weeks old. I started out breastfeeding but I had to switch him over to Similac w/ Iron. His poop has never changed. It’s still kind of loose and he poops at least 5 times a day or more. He is gaining weight and has no other issues. Pedia says to leave him on it but I am paranoid because my other son has a milk allergy and was on soy. I don’t really want to switch my baby over to soy because that constipates but I just don’t think his poo is normal for a formula fed baby. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I asked my pedi the same question. My son had loose stools 3-4 times a day. But was gaining weight, happy, not feverish, etc. My pedi said that unless he’s pooping and it’s really just ‘colored water’ don’t worry about it. He also told me when some babies start to teeth, their stools can get loose.
Good luck!

When I first switched my son over to Goodstart Supreme Formula he pooped several times a day. Than he started pooping once a day and now thats all he does. I asked the doctor just to make sure if that was alright and his son is only a month older than mine and said that his son poops every other day sometimes. It all depends on the baby. Babies are different so they all poop different.

if all you consumed was milk or milky products, you’d have runny stool several times a day, too. if your pediatrician isn’t worried, you don’t need to, either. just because one child is allergic doesn’t mean the other is, too.

Usually, stool at this age is loose. Since all the kid is getting is a liquid diet, it will be loose. That’s totally normal, and nothing to worry about.

Just listen to your dr…to me it sounds fairly normal my son was on similac advance w/ iron and he went a lot everyday and it was always a bit loose until he started other things!
