My son was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy and since I breastfeed I have to be dairy free as well! Anyone else have to deal with this? I am having a hard time going dairy free cold turkey! Any great recipes, shopping lists, advice you can give me? I do not want to go to strictly formula since its really expensive (almost double the price of normal formula)

My daughter is lactose intolerant, so I understand how difficult this is.
Take heart, though – there are many, many non-dairy options nowadays, and wonderful soy, almond, and rice milk substitutes.
Here’s a website to get you started: http://www.godairyfree.org/
    All the best.

You may miss it for the first week or so but then it will be easier. Look on the peta website – they have a lot of great recipes. After a month you can slowly start to add dairy back into your diet. Each baby is different on the amount of the protein that they can handle. Some babies can’t tolerate any, some babies can tolerate 1-2 tsp, some babies can tolerate a couple of cups. (When I say this I mean the amount of milk that mothers can have in their diet).
    Buy soy milk.

I’m not sure about you’re financial situation but you can try to apply for WIC and then you will not have to pay for formula. Did you ask the doctor if soy milk was allowed, i have never heard about this allergy before. I’m sorry you are having to go through this. Good Luck.
