Has Anyone Given Their Under 6 Month Old Baby Soy Yogurt? My Daughter Has A Milk Allergy So No Regular Yogurt.

save the yogurt until the baby is old enough to digest it
Health experts and breastfeeding experts agree that it’s best to wait until your baby is around six months old before offering solid foods. The American Academy of Pediatrics, the World Health Organization, and many other health organizations recommend that babies be exclusively breastfed (no cereal, juice or other foods) for the first 6 months of life.
Signs that indicate baby is developmentally ready for solids include:
* Baby can sit up well without support.
* Baby has lost the tongue-thrust reflex and does not automatically push solids out of his mouth with his tongue.
* Baby is ready and willing to chew.
* Baby is developing a “pincer” grasp, where he picks up food or other objects between thumb and forefinger. Using the fingers and scraping the food into the palm of the hand (palmar grasp) does not substitute for pincer grasp development.
* Baby is eager to participate in mealtime and may try to grab food and put it in his mouth.

First of all, under 6 months should still be nursing or taking formula, secondly no baby until 12 months should be getting cow’s milk unless it’s fermented. A child with milk allergies usually will tolerate fermented cow’s milk in yogurt as the bacteria that makes it yogurt converts the proteins that cause the allergy into bacteria proteins.
Soy milk and soy yogurt do not have enough fats to really be a useful food for a baby or toddler. They’re okay but not a subsitute for formula or breast milk at those ages.

I don’t think unfermented soy ought to be anything more than an occasional thing in one’s diet. It’s also a common allergen, so I’d leave it until she’s at least one. Most people are not allergic to milk, but to lactose. Cheese and yogurt have little to no lactose because the bacteria digest it for you. For this reason, many people who can’t drink milk have no problem with cheese or yogurt.
As others have said. A child under 6 months shouldn’t be having anything other than breastmilk or formula anyway. Why do you want to give her yogurt of all things? Veggies would be a better start.
