My son has been taking whole milk for almost 2 weeks now. Just yesterday he started acting real tired, clingy and whiny and had diarrhea 2x during the day and 1x in the middle of the night. He isn’t running a fever or anything else that would tell me he’s sick.
Can it take that long for a milk allergy to show up? Could he have a bug w/o a fever?
I have a call in to the nurse and am waiting for a call back now, but thought I’d see what you mommies can tell me.
Thanks!

I am going to say it’s more than likely a bug with bad timing. You did the right thing by calling the nurse. Just monitor him over the next few days and see if it clears up. You will need to push fluids since he does have diarrhea.
My little one just got over the stomach bug. No fun. Good luck.

My Daughter is almost 8 months and has had a confirmed milk allergy since she was 7 weeks old and her upset stomach started the second she started to swallow milk, it was like an instant reaction. Allergies and intolerance’s show up in people in lots of different ways but if he tolerates dairy in all other forms and didn’t have any problem with formula (if he was formula fed) then I would say it’s probably a tummy bug.
Keep his hands really clean and keep him well hydrated. My Nephew just got over a tummy bug and it was horrible, he also didn’t have a fever.
I hope he feels better soon!

I is definitely possible to get a virus without a fever. He could get diarrhea from cutting a tooth too, not just from milk. I would give him clear liquids and bananas, applesauce, rice, toast (brat) and not give him any milk until after he is better. Then try the milk again, if he gets diarrhea again, then you know it is the milk.
