My 4 week has finally got over the baby acne, but something wierd is happening. The skin seems to be irritated, dry, and patchy looking with some rashes behind the ears, on the chest, and neck. He’s been getting milk based infant formula once a day for about a week now. Could It be a milk allergy?

Eczema *is* a rash, and it is often caused by milk allergy. So it’s probably all three. Eliminate the dairy from baby’s diet (and yours, as well–now that baby is sensitized, *you* probably can’t eat it any more either) for at least 2 weeks and see if it goes away.

Well to the people who say it’s not a Milk allergy, i beg to differ. Eczema and Allergies go hand in hand in some cases

usually a milk allergy will cause the baby to have diareah be extreemly fussy and vomit…A LOT… Heat rash is very common right now. Just try to keep the baby cool and clean.

it’s probably eczema. many. many newborn males are born with this. I have 3 friends that all had boys within the last year. all 3 boys have eczema. don’t worry, just take him to the doctor.

there is an amazing product called Pinxav that is a miracle product for rashes. They have a web site, check it out. You’ll love this stuff. NBC’s Today show is featuring it this friday for a segment on great summer products. Daily Candy is also writing about them this Friday.

I had someone tell me that if my son had a rash behind his ears it was a milk allergy. After trying several different things, we finally switched him to soy milk and guess what – He became a completely different child! No more rashes behind the ears, but so many other improvements as well. He was, in fact, allergic to milk. Talk to your ped first, but I would def. ask if you should consider switching to soy based formula.

if it’s either a rash or eczema I’d try some 1 % hydrocortizone for a few days and see if it help both my daughter and son have eczema and get diaper rash on occasion. I doubt it’s a milk allergy . but if after a week or so it’s still there ask your doctor if you think it’s heat rash which isn’t as bumpy or raised as a normal rash try a little corn starch and dress your baby light or just keep him in a diaper

Dont bathe him so much and see if that makes a difference. Dry patchy skin sounds like eczema and almost all babies outgrow it.

    I am anutritionist
it is not likely a milk allergy, because of the symptoms I would say maby you are bathing too often, or using a soap that is causing the reaction

I’d say no based on the description, but it is possible! Make sure you put cream on him numerous times a day to help moisturize the skin, and I beg to differ with those that say not to bathe so much. Dermatologists now say bathe EVERY day, but absolutely make sure it is lukewarm water! My son (16 months) has numerous severe food allergies and atopic dermatitis so I know how you feel
