I have a milk allergy and I was recently diagnosed, ironic it is halloween and I am a chalk-a-holic. I am having a hard time with staying off the chocolate and other sweets/food w/ milk in it. Does anyone here have a milk allergy that can give me tips on
how to deal with this big change. It is hard because everyone has support, people with cancer, diabetes, asthma, but there is like no one w/ a milk allergy and I feel like I have no support.

A milk allergy isn’t easy.. actually no food allergy is easy at first. You’re going to miss those foods that you have to avoid. Its ok. Mourn them, but also find things you can have.
There are some dark chocolates without milk, read labels, you’ll find them. Even if you don’t like dark chocolate at first, you can use it and coconut milk to make some great fudge (you’ll never want milk in your chocolate again after getting some of that). Or you can melt some dark chocolate in the microwave, and dip strawberries or marshmallows in it.
Eventually as you get used to being milk-free and reaction-free, you’ll see that the trade off is worth it.
Btw for the best milk-free hot cocoa.. get ahold of some Droste cocoa.. heat up some water (or soy milk or coconut milk), add some sugar and the cocoa… and YUMMMY!
Food Allergy support groups (there are plenty of them nearly everywhere now) will help give you an outlet among people who get what its like to live without. But your friends and family may need some education in what you can and cannot have, and why, to get them to support you and help you through this time. Btw, try to avoid friends/family that try to convince you that the allergy isn’t real, or that “just a little bit won’t kill you” type attitude. Eventually they may come around, but at this time in your life you need people that are going to take you seriously and support you through this. (That means you also need to take this seriously and stop cheating).
You may also find food shopping fun, as you investigate and try new things and find new favorite foods. Amy’s brand foods makes several milk-free items, and even have several milk-free pizzas which are pretty good.
    Good Luck.
PS. thatckid – lactaid is for lactose intolerance – its the enzyme required to digest lactose that people with lactose intolerance don’t make on their own. A milk allergy severely different in that the body thinks milk itself is poison or an invader and attacks it. Lactaid for a milk allergy will not work, and is extremely dangerous advice.

There are plenty of websites with advice and support for people with milk allergies.
    Here’s a good one:http://kidshealth.org/teen/food_fitness/…
I read that most kids outgrow the milk allergy and can go back to eating normally, after treatment.

You can take lactaid and be able to eat and drink the things you want to. They have chewables and pills and you can usually get them at your local drugstore or walmart.
