I have a milk allergy but do not know how severe as I never eat any dairy. However, the other day I had a taste of ice cream and almost instantly started having trouble breathing. Do you think this is possible or a psychosymatic reaction?

I am a milk allergy sufferer who also has asthma. As the milk allergy was recently diagnosed I can definitely tell you that milk allergies can lead to asthma attacks as a symptom of the allergy. Before I stopped drinking milk I had regular asthma attacks and just the overall feeling of having that “heavy, tight” chest. I have only had both the attack and the tight chest twice, both times I consumed something with traces of milk in it.
But your symptoms could be more of the anaphlaxsis nature where multiple organs react and cause your throat to swell and your lungs to tighten making it harder, if not impossible to breath. It is difficult to tell the difference between the two and I recommend that you stay away from the dairy, discuss this with your doctor and if it happens again go straight to the ER.
And no I don’t think it is a psychosomatic reaction!

your throat may have tried to close up due to your allergic reation to the dairy in the ice cream. but it doesn’t cause asthma attacks. asthma attacks are caused by allergic reations to the pollutants in the air. and even pollon or dust. or some people have asthma from when they were born. but your dairy allergy is not the cause.

It might be. But to be sure you should think about seeing a allergist doctor, and get tested for allergies. IT REALLY HELPS the test will show what ur allergic to and how bad it is. The doctor will tell you how many servings of the foods ur allergic to you should have.

you are still allergic. the reason you had trouble breathin is that your airway was swelling. You need to carry an Epi-Pen. Get a prescription from your doctor. It is a self injectible remedy should you accidently ingest milk product and have trouble breathing. You need to carry this with you because in a severe reaction your airway could close off before you had time to get help from 911 much less get to a hospital.

Yes the dairy you consumed is most likely causing your asthma to flare. Shortness of breath/ wheezing is a very common side effect. You could also get hives, vomit, have diarrhea, your throat could swell, shock could occur, runny nose, death…..

yea it could happen. or you throat was just swelling shut. asthma is when the bronculi in the lungs (or whatever they are called) swell not just the throat. Guess you can’t eat icecream.

Yes it is possible. If you have asthma you should speak with your doctor about soy dairy products. I’ve used it for my son’s asthma and it helped a lot. Also find out what else you might be allergic to. Ask your doctor for an epipen and carry it with you everywhere. So be careful. Best wishes.

Yes, it is possible. My niece had the same problem whenever she had milk or any food with cream or milk. When she stopped it, her sneezing and breathing difficulty stopped too.

Who knows best but your doctor. But dairy products due
cause a lot allergies in many , many people . You need to
be tested for this to understand the severity’s of your
condition . Then hopefully it will rule out psychosomatic
    reactions.

I’ve seen a direct correllation between asthma and intake of sugar/wheat/dairy. When I take asthmatic patients off those foods, and have them drink ginger tea 3 times daily (1 cup boiling water with 1/4 tsp powdered ginger and raw honey to taste), the symptoms improve considerably.
